Description: Witness the Infinitum of Violet and Indigo textures within light waves. Feel the hue of spectrum waves glide through the atmosphere. Using a digital large-format camera, these images are lit by the waves of phosphorus, neon, and the light-emitting diodes (LED) found in contemporary public advertisements. The resulting photographs create a textural mapping of wave emissions through fluid control of the camera. These are my transmissions of light. ‘Violet : Indigo Transmissions of Light’ is an artwork that is of central importance to Florez's ongoing philosophy and artistic direction within her practice. Co-productive the to paths, interactions and behaviours of light, the artist photographs waves emitted from neon, phosphorous and light-emitting diodes in public advertisements within New York City. Deploying a 4x5 Leica System camera on a low shutter-speed, she allows such waves to translate into visual metaphors for outlooks on the future and abstract gestures within of her environment, contemplating the energy produced between humans and life on earth. The Transmissions of Light series concerns three main tropes: emissions of perception, communication and interaction. Waves of light flow in and out of action, looping forward and fleeting in retrograde to embody the 'physical and emotional catalysts of our universe'. The result of Florez's labor of light is a diligently crafted photograph, documenting every bright strand with distilled perception and clarity.
